The Catholic Community Foundation of the Diocese of Cleveland made a distribution of $2,385,250 to the Office of Catechetical Formation and Education to provide tuition assistance to approximately 3,000 students attending 91 Catholic schools throughout the diocese. The total distributed represents an increase of $115,050 over tuition assistance distributions in 2016.
The distribution was funded through the Catholic Education Endowment Trust, proceeds from Rooted in Faith – Forward in Hope campaign, Faith & Values Appeal for Catholic Education, and other fundraising initiatives supported through the generosity of people in the eight-county Diocese of Cleveland, which includes Ashland, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Summit and Wayne counties.
“Parents recognize the importance of an education based on Gospel values, and the faithful continue to support Catholic education so that students can benefit in ways that change our communities and the world for the better,” said Bishop Nelson J. Perez.
“Tuition assistance makes Catholic education possible for many students,” said Christopher Knight, superintendent of Catholic schools in the diocese. “The generous people who are providing financial support for tuition assistance are impacting young lives in profound ways.”
More than 44,000 students are enrolled in 112 Catholic elementary and secondary schools in the Diocese of Cleveland, representing the fifth-largest private school system in the United States, and the second-largest school system (public or private) in the state of Ohio.
The Catholic Community Foundation is dedicated to enriching lives by encouraging faithful philanthropy.
