Cleveland Bishop Nelson Perez took time recently to meet with religious sisters from throughout the diocese who came together at a special gathering on Nov. 18 at the Notre Dame Provincial Center in Chardon. About 300 sisters representing most of the congregations of religious women throughout the eight-county diocese attended the morning meet and greet session.
The sisters heard Bishop Perez talk about his desire to listen to groups from throughout the diocese, and how he has been impressed by the warmth of the people he has met throughout his first few months as bishop. He also shared with the sisters his first impressions of the diocese, making special note of the rich cultural diversity he has witnessed as he travels from place to place throughout Northeast Ohio.
The event began with morning prayer, which was followed by the bishop?s talk and dialogue with the sisters. Bishop Perez thanked the sisters for the many contributions they have made to the life of the Church in the diocese.
Sister Rita Mary Harwood, diocesan secretary for parish life and development, said this gathering with the bishop left many of the sisters in attendance hopeful and with a sense of excitement about the future.
