Annual Christmas Mass for inmates features message of hope
In what has become a longstanding tradition at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland joins men and women inmates at the county jail to celebrate a Christmas Mass.
In his first opportunity to worship with more than 50 inmates from the jail, Bishop Nelson Perez began the service by asking the prisoners to pray with him for their loved ones who they may not be with this Christmas, but whom they love.
The group joined in song throughout the Mass, singing the traditional hymns: ?O Come, All Ye Faithful,? ?Silent Night? and ?Go Tell It On The Mountain.?
In his homily, the bishop told the congregation that we all know the Christmas story, but he noted that the beautiful depictions of the Nativity scene are probably not quite what really occurred.
