About two dozen Parents of Priest members gathered for their quarterly Mass on Palm Sunday at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. Bishop Nelson Perez was the celebrant.
He acknowledged the group during Mass, asking members to stand. He also thanked them publicly for the gift of their sons and the work they do to support priests in the Diocese of Cleveland and beyond.
After Mass, the group had a reception in the cathedral rectory parlor and mingled with the bishop. There was time for group and individual conversation, as well as photos with Bishop Perez.
The Parents of Priests organization has supported priests and vocations for more than 40 years.
According to its website, the group seeks to gather parents for mutual support and in the support of the vocations of their priest sons. The group also ?promotes the good interests of the diocesan seminaries, either directly by its moral and material support, or indirectly by aiding the educational interests of the seminarians.?
Parents of Priests has a monthly calendar listing daily prayer intentions. Seminarians, the bishops and seminary faculty members are among those who rotate on the daily prayer list.
Membership in the group is open to all residents of the diocese whose sons are priests
