Brookside Gives Back Fund distributes $12,000 to aid Catholic school students

News of the Diocese

May 30, 2018

The Brookside Gives Back Fund, held at the Catholic Community Foundation, has made a distribution of $12,000 to support tuition assistance for students at Holy Family Catholic School and St. Columbkille Catholic School, both in Parma. The fund was created by Christopher A. Anselmo, president at Brookside Tax & Financial Group, LLC, a full-service tax and financial group located in Middleburg Heights.

On June 6, Anselmo will present checks to Holy Family and St. Columbkille schools during school award assemblies. In turn, the schools will make 12 $1,000 tuition assistance awards to selected students, based on need. ?Support of Catholic education through assistance and scholarships is so important to our families who are working and sacrificing to send their children to a Catholic school. The impact of this assistance helps all of us in Catholic education to continue to foster a love of Christ while providing a high quality education,? says St. Columbkille School Principal Renee Cerny. ?We are so grateful for Mr. Anselmo?s generosity and the work of the Brookside Gives Back Fund.?

The Brookside Gives Back Fund was established in 2017 by Anselmo, with significant funds added from memorial contributions made for his father, who passed away in January. ?I wanted to help children, and I know that a child in a Catholic school has a shot at a gaining a good education,? says Anselmo, who is an alumnus of John Carroll University. ?I plan on making continuing contributions to Brookside Gives Back Fund and am encouraging others to join me in order to help students gain a Catholic education.? Brookside will provide another $12,000 check to the Brookside Gives Back Foundation for the next school year.

Holy Family Principal Tom Brownfield is grateful for the assistance that the fund provides. ?As the cost of Catholic education continues to grow, children from many families, especially many middle class families, are being excluded from a faith-based system of learning. Thanks to the Brookside Gives Back Fund, six of our families are able to continue to send their children to Holy Family School where their children can continue to learn in a Christ-like environment centered on proclaiming the Gospel and serving others.?
