FORMED provides faithful teachings, practical resources for today's Catholic

News of the Diocese

March 28, 2019

The Diocese of Cleveland is subsidizing a free subscription for one full year to FORMED, a digital tool known to refresh traditional parish resources by providing impactful, on-demand, web and mobile app tools for Catholics today. With this subscription, any person living within the parish boundaries can have access to the FORMED content.

“Whether it is sacramental prep, RCIA and youth ministry for parishes, an individual Bible study or trying to find something for the whole family to watch, FORMED has a varied menu of options that will empower our community of Catholics,” said Sister Rita Mary Harwood, SND, diocesan secretary for parish life. “The Secretariat for Parish Life and Development appreciates all the collaboration with the Secretariat for Catechetical Formation. Our staff members and offices strive to provide resources for all those we serve,” added Sister Rita Mary.

This unique partnership with FORMED is part of a three-year initiative. Now, approximately 160 Catholic parishes within the eight-county diocese have the ability to access the Catholic content at no cost thanks to funding from the Rooted in Faith - Forward in Hope campaign.

“Providing FORMED to all Catholics demonstrates the impact of our faithful and their commitment to strengthening the Catholic Church of Northeast Ohio. The Catholic Community Foundation sincerely thanks all of the donors who have helped bring this evangelization tool to every one of God’s people through their generous contribution to the Rooted in Faith - Forward in Hope campaign,” said Patrick Grace, executive director of the Catholic Community Foundation, the fundraising ministry of the diocese.

Prior to the diocesan-wide initiative, FORMED was a subscription-based service that parishes had to elect to use on an individual basis.

“Matthew 28:19 says ‘go and make disciples,’ and we believe that FORMED is an invaluable resource that supports this mission in Scripture by extending beyond the walls of parishes,” Sister Rita Mary said. “With 24/7 access to inspiring movies, video studies, audio talks, e-books and more, FORMED provides practical resources for the 21st century Catholic.”

Check out these FORMED Picks of the Week:

  • “Opening the Word” – An audio and video recap that reviews the Gospel for the fourth Sunday of Lent (March 31). The story of the Prodigal Son is one of the most familiar of all of Jesus’ parables. This resource takes a closer look at the historical setting for the story and relates what takes place in the first century to our lives today.
  • “Forgiven” – A joyful animated video for preschool- and elementary-age children that explains God’s forgiveness through the sacrament of reconciliation.
  • “Journey with Christ to Calvary” – These audio meditations allow listeners to follow Christ on the journey to Calvary. This audio Stations of the Cross can be for listeners’ commute or anytime to enrich prayer during Lent.

Parishioners are encouraged to explore FORMED.org and contact their parish for information on how to sign up.
