Bishop Nelson Perez took to Facebook on Monday, July 22 to reminisce and provide insight about his summer pilgrimage from Cleveland to Rome and Assisi, Italy. He shared photos featuring 22 diocesan priests who joined the pilgrimage and talked candidly about greeting Pope Francis.
Brooke Uehlein and Jeff Stutzman, members of the diocesan communications staff, led a lunchtime discussion with the bishop on the Diocese of Cleveland Facebook page about the special pilgrimage.
The half hour broadcast features Bishop Perez’s recollection of the pilgrimage and the group’s visit to the Tomb of St. Peter in Rome, his favorite meals while in Italy and time spent in the LaVerna Chapel in Assisi where St. Francis received the stigmata, marks that mirrored the wounds Jesus suffered by his crucifixion.
Bishop Perez also talked about the people he met, including a group of students from Walsh University in Canton while touring the Catacombs of Rome.
