A statement from Bishop Perez on the mass shooting in El Paso, Texas

Once again hearts across America are joined together in collective mourning for the victims of the horrific shooting that occurred on Saturday, August 3 at a shopping complex in El Paso, Texas. We pray for those who lost their lives, the wounded, and their families. We pray, too, for the El Paso community and the first responders whose bravery prevented further bloodshed. We also remember in prayer the people of Gilroy, California who endured a similar shooting attack earlier this week at an outdoor event where people died and others were wounded.

We implore all people of goodwill, especially our legislative leaders, to work together to find meaningful solutions to the scourge of gun violence in our society today.

Together we pray that the God of all Goodness and Mercy dispel the darkness of evil in our land and grant us His peace. May He provide light where there is darkness, love where there is hate, and kindness where there is contempt.
