A few tickets are still available for the 2019 Alleluia Ball on Oct. 5 at the Hilton Downtown Cleveland. Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan, archbishop of New York, will be the special guest at the event, which is presented by the Catholic Community Foundation. About 1,000 people are expected to attend.
The Alleluia Ball will begin with Cardinal Dolan celebrating Mass at 5 p.m. in the Hilton’s Hope Ballroom. Cleveland Bishop Nelson Perez will concelebrate.
After Mass, the black tie event will continue with a full evening of cocktails, dinner and dancing.
Theme for this year’s Alleluia Ball is “Keeping Dreams Alive,” which refers to the dream of Catholic education for students and families in Northeast Ohio who benefit from tuition assistance. The ball raises funds for tuition assistance for families and students who desire a Catholic school education in Northeast Ohio.
Cardinal Dolan, who is known for his charismatic personality, will address the attendees.
“I am looking forward to joining my friend, Bishop Nelson Perez, and all the wonderful people in the Diocese of Cleveland to celebrate the Alleluia Ball which raises funds for something near and dear to my heart – Catholic education. The Gospel values that Catholic education imparts help to form the hearts and minds of young people in a way that is greatly needed in our world today, and gives great hope to the future of our Church,” said Cardinal Dolan.
Lorraine Dodero is the chair of the 2019 Alleluia Ball. She is recognized throughout Northeast Ohio for her community service and philanthropic involvements and is the founder and current president of the Ohio Chapter of the Patrons of the Arts in the Vatican Museums. Dodero has been leading a dedicated group of volunteers to raise funds for Alleluia Ball that will impact the future of students, their families and the community.
“The Alleluia Ball has a rich history that invites us to celebrate our Catholic faith and philanthropy,” said Bishop Perez. “The ball supports Catholic education, which has always been a great blessing to the Church in Northeast Ohio. Now more than ever, families need access to Catholic education so that children can hear the Christian message and live its values. Your support provides financial resources that directly impact the futures of our students.”
Since its inception, the Alleluia Ball has raised more than $7 million to support Catholic schools and families who seek a Catholic education for their children. Nearly 42,000 students are enrolled in Catholic schools in the Cleveland Diocese. In 2017-2018, more than $2.3 million in tuition assistance was awarded by the diocese, benefitting 3,000 students.
