Annual State of the Schools Report available in digital format for 2019-2020

In 1847, when the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland was established, the average cost of a children’s prayer book was six cents. College tuition average was $30 with room and board totaling $1 per quarter. Much has changed over the last 173 years.

During those early years, Catholic education was on the move in the United States and in Ohio. Together with the bishop, the first priests of the diocese believed that parishes needed schools adequate to meet the needs of their children. The system of Catholic schools grew, funded by parishes and staffed largely by religious sisters, priests and brothers.

Catholic schools today fill a crucial role for Church and communities. Each year, the Office of Education for the Diocese of Cleveland provides an annual report -- the State of the Schools -- which outlines data about student performance and achievements from the 108 schools located within the diocese.

This month, the 2019-2020 State of the Schools Report was released. The Office of Education invites the greater Catholic community of Northeast Ohio to read and see just how God’s word, Catholic values and faith are guiding academics, character-building and developing future leaders at diocesan schools.

In addition to this report, all are invited to join the nationwide celebration of Catholic Schools Week, Jan. 26 through Feb. 2. All are encouraged to visit a school during an upcoming open house event or learn more during Catholic Schools Week.
