The wake for Deacon Robert J. Piskach will take place 2-8 p.m. Feb. 21 at Zabor Funeral Home, 5680 Pearl Road, Parma. At the request of the family, there will be no vespers.

Visitation also will take place at 10 a.m. Feb. 22 in St. Francis de Sales Church, 3434 George Ave., Parma, immediately before the funeral Mass at 11. Auxiliary Bishop emeritus Roger Gries, OSB, will be the main celebrant of the Mass, with Father Mark Peyton, St. Francis de Sales pastor, as homilist.

Deacon Piskach, 87, died on Feb. 13. Survivors include four children and 10 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Maureen (O’Brien).

Deacon Piskach was ordained to the permanent diaconate for service to the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland on June 1, 1985 in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist by Bishop Anthony Pilla.

He was assigned to serve at St. Francis de Sales Parish, Parma. In addition to this assignment, he served as chaplain of the Knights of Columbus, Archbishop Hoban General Assembly.

Deacon Piskach was granted retirement on Aug. 15, 2016.

He was known as a man of deep faith, prayer and love for the Church. Deacon Piskach had a devotion to the Blessed Mother, especially after his pilgrimage and experience at Medjugorje. In his ministry to the parish, he was dedicated to the Holy Name Society, to helping people in need and bringing holy Communion to the homebound.

There will be a private interment on Feb. 24 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
