The Catholic Diocese of Cleveland has a new podcast available to all listeners. “Reflections on Faith with Bishop Roger Gries” offers short episodes providing listeners with an opportunity to pause for reflection and insight on the Catholic faith and inspiration to help believers keep the flame of faith burning brightly.
Bishop Gries is a popular and well-known retired auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Cleveland. In the podcast, he shares his wit and wisdom to explain the faith in a straightforward and understandable way.
Tech experts define a podcast as an episodic series of digital audio files that a user can download in order to listen. Podcasts can be accessed almost anywhere and recent statistics show that more than half the U.S. population – about 165 million people -- has listened to a podcast.
Bishop Gries was named an auxiliary bishop of Cleveland on April 3, 2001. He retired on Nov. 1, 2013 and continues to assist with liturgies and ministry throughout the diocese.
He was professed as a Benedictine monk on July 11, 1957 and was ordained a priest on May 18, 1963. Following his ordination, he earned a master’s degree in education from Loyola University of Chicago. He served Benedictine High School as a teacher, coach, bus driver, principal and president from 1964-2001.
After serving as abbot of the Benedictine monastery in Cleveland for 20 years, Bishop Gries was preparing to retire from the position when he received the invitation from Pope John Paul II to serve as auxiliary bishop of Cleveland. He was ordained as a bishop on June 7, 2001 and has served in that role for nearly 20 years.
