To keep everyone informed on what the Diocese of Cleveland is doing to meet the challenges presented by the spread of the coronavirus, the diocese has established an administrative crisis team that meets daily to develop and provide regular, accurate communications to the diocese about actions to be taken to ensure the health and safety of the faithful and all those who minister in the Church.
As a result of consultation with county health officials and in the wake of the cancellation of the Cleveland St. Patrick’s Day Parade, we are announcing that Masses that were scheduled to be celebrated in conjunction with St Patrick’s Day and at which large gatherings were anticipated, are cancelled. This directive affects the St. Patrick’s Day Mass celebrations that were scheduled at St. Patrick Parish (Bridge Avenue), Cleveland; St. Patrick Parish, West Park; St. Colman Parish, Cleveland; SS. Robert and William Parish, Euclid; and the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist (10 a.m. Mass.)
We are expecting additional guidance on large gatherings to be forthcoming soon from Governor Mike DeWine, possibly after 2 p.m. today. We will be monitoring this information and determining the impact of the governor’s guidance on our liturgical, sacramental, educational and social activities and we will provide more comprehensive information on our actions in response.
May we continue to observe the precautions prescribed by our public health department to protect ourselves and those around us, and remember to pray for those sickened by the virus, their families and their caregivers.
