Effective March 16, the Catholic Bishop Abuse Reporting Service, ReportBishopAbuse.org, is accepting reports of sexual abuse and related misconduct by bishops. Abuse reports also can be made by phone at 800-276-1562. The reports will be relayed to the proper Church authorities for investigation.
If a report includes a crime, such as the sexual abuse of a minor, it also will be reported to civil authorities. Otherwise, the reports will be confidential.
Complaints about a bishop that involve parish assignments, church closings, homily contents or other issues should be addressed directly to the diocesan bishop. Since the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland is awaiting the appointment of a bishop, such issues should be reported to Father Don Oleksiak, the diocesan administrator.
The procedure for reporting sexual abuse by a priest, deacon, staff member or volunteer of the Church remains the same – contact the victim assistance coordinator in the Child Protection Office.
Victims of sexual abuse or any other crime should contact local law enforcement.
