I applaud today’s decision by the United States Supreme Court resulting in the protection of the government immigration program known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA. This ruling protects hundreds of thousands of young immigrants who have been shielded from deportation and allowed to receive work permits under the program. Many of these young people live and worship in our parishes; some have attended our schools, played on our sports teams and become friends of our children. They are bright, energetic and eager to pursue their education and training and reach their full potential as contributing members of our communities. As people of faith, the Catholic community in the Diocese of Cleveland stands with the DACA youth in our community and continues to offer our support and assistance.
