The July/August issue of Northeast Ohio Catholic magazine should be arriving soon in mailboxes across the eight-county Diocese of Cleveland.
Much of the magazine is devoted to the ongoing coronavirus health crisis, taking a look at some of the heroes of the pandemic. Sharing their stories are Mother Jeanette Estrada of the Mercedarian Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, educator Rich Smith, Bishop Cosgrove Center cook Angelique Oatman, Father Michael Stalla, pastor of SS. Cosmas and Damian Parish and nurse Christy Frey, an intensive care nurse at UH St. John Medical Center.
Also, Father Ed Estok, pastor of St. Albert the Great Parish in North Royalton, and several other parishes and clergy members share how they stayed connected with parishioners during the suspension of publicly celebrated Masses as well as how they are welcoming the faithful back to Mass.
And Father Don Oleksiak, diocesan administrator, talks about how the local Church shows its resiliency during the pandemic.
The sin of racism is the topic of a special report in this issue, including what the Church has to say about it in the wake of national protests after the death of George Floyd and other similar incidents. Also, Cary Dabney, who heads the diocesan Office of Ministry to African Americans, shares his thoughts.
Frank O’Linn, superintendent of schools in the diocese, discusses how schools are planning to resume classes safely this fall.
The Danburg family talks about how they learned to recharge and reconnect during the pandemic – and they share some favorite family recipes.
In the Know with Father Joe focuses on how much we should love our enemies.
Learn about plans for TheFEST@home, details about the upcoming priestly, transitional and permanent deacon ordinations, clergy assignment changes, Things to Do listings, in memoriam and much more in the July/August Northeast Ohio Catholic.
