Seminarians, diaconate candidates to be instituted into ministry of acolyte

Ten students from Saint Mary Seminary and two candidates for the permanent diaconate in the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland will be instituted into the ministry of acolyte at separate Masses this weekend.

Nine of the seminarians will be instituted for the Diocese of Cleveland: Christopher Lawrence Cotone, St. John Bosco Parish, Parma Heights; Anthony Aaron Donatelli, St. Mary Parish, Hudson; James Jonathon Hawkins, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Wadsworth; Jeffrey LeVance Lindholm, St. Raphael Parish, Bay Village; James William Livingston, St. Julie Billiart Parish, North Ridgeville; Joseph Francis McCarron, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, South Euclid; James Alexander Parisi, St. Hilary Parish, Fairlawn; Luke Henry Rose, St. Basil the Great Parish, Brecksville; and Kyle Jacob Rosser, St. Peter Parish, Lorain.

The 10th seminarian, Travis David Seagraves, will be instituted for the Diocese of Youngstown.

Michael Joseph Costantini, St. Barnabas Parish, Northfield and Scott Albert Cerrito, Our Lady of Grace Parish, Hinckley are the diaconate candidates who will be instituted as acolytes.

Bishop Edward Malesic will celebrate both Masses.

The seminarians’ Mass will be livestreamed on the diocesan website at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5 from SS. Robert and William Parish in Euclid. Relatives, pastors and friends will participate in the liturgy by invitation only.

The diaconate Mass will be at 5 p.m. Feb. 6 at St. Agnes + Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Cleveland.

Instituted acolytes have the responsibility of assisting priests and deacons in carrying out their liturgical ministry. As special ministers of the Eucharist, instituted acolytes may distribute holy Communion to the faithful at the liturgy and to the sick. They also may expose the Blessed Sacrament for adoration. Because the instituted acolyte’s ministry places him in the service of the altar, he has a special relationship to the Eucharist.
