The wake for Deacon William E, Schill begins with vespers at 3 p.m. Feb. 12 in St. Colman Church, 2027 W. 65thSt., Cleveland. Auxiliary Bishop emeritus Roger Gries will be the presider with Father Benjamin Koka, AJ, will be the homilist. The wake continues until 6 p.m.
Bishop Martin Amos, retired bishop of Davenport, Iowa, will celebrate Deacon Schill’s funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Feb. 13 at St. Colman’s. Father Robert Begin will be the homilist.
Deacon Schill, 84, died on Feb.8. Survivors include his wife, Suzanne (Zielinski) and a son, Sean.
He was ordained to the permanent diaconate for service to the Diocese of Cleveland by Bishop Anthony Pilla on May 18, 1991 in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.
After ordination, Deacon Schill was assigned to serve St. Clarence Parish in North Olmsted. During that assignment, he also served as moderator of the Diocesan Singles Club, effective Jan. 29, 1996. On July 20, 1998, he was transferred to serve at St. Stanislaus Parish in Lorain and on Aug. 16, 2006, he was assigned to serve St. Colman’s, where he remained until his retirement on Dec. 10, 2010.
Those who knew him said Deacon Schill will be remembered for his kindness, faithful service and dedication to those in need, especially the poor.
Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Avon.
