Bishop Edward Malesic will celebrate the funeral Mass for Father Thomas J. Hagedorn at 11 a.m. Feb. 20 at St. Mary Church, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. Father Jack Manning will be the homilist.
The wake for Father Hagedorn will begin with vespers at 3 p.m. Feb. 19 in St. Mary Church, Elyria. Bishop Martin Amos, retired bishop of Davenport, Iowa, will preside and Father Charlie Diedrick, pastor of St. Mary Church, will be the homilist.
Father Hagedorn, 75, died on Feb. 13.
He was born to the late Thomas and Catherine (Seward) Hagedorn on Nov. 18, 1945. Father Hagedorn was educated at St. Mary School in Elyria, Borromeo Seminary High School and Borromeo Seminary in Wickliffe and Saint Mary Seminary in Cleveland. Bishop Clarence Issenmann ordained to the priesthood for service to the Diocese of Cleveland on May 29, 1971 in St. William Church in Euclid.
His first assignment was as parochial vicar at Holy Family Parish in Parma. During that assignment, he also served as chaplain, Cuyahoga Community College’s Western Campus 1971-1972. He was transferred on June 24, 1976 to serve as a parochial vicar at St. Patrick Parish, Rocky River Drive, in Cleveland. Father Hagedorn was appointed parochial vicar of St. Robert Parish in Euclid on June 11, 1981 and on June 24, 1986, he was transferred to St. Raphael Parish in Bay Village to serve as parochial vicar.
On Jan 5, 1988, Father Hagedorn was named pastor of St. Patrick Parish, Rocky River Drive, where he served until his retirement on June 7, 2010.
Father Hagedorn was a dedicated pastor to his parishioners. Those who knew him said that even in the midst of his own serious illness and surgeries, he continued to minister to them with his usual deep caring and good humor. He was a good and faithful friend to many.
Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
