Thomas Carone named the new president of Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School

Press Releases

February 18, 2021

The Catholic Diocese of Cleveland has named Thomas M. Carone president of Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School (VASJ). Carone replaces Richard J. Osborne who served as interim president. Carone comes to VASJ from St. Vincent-St. Mary School (STVM) in Akron where he currently serves as president. Carone has held that post since 2013. He will become president of VASJ on July 1.

In making the announcement, Frank O’Linn, Ed.D., secretary for education and superintendent of schools for the Diocese of Cleveland, praised Carone for his leadership and willingness to serve. “Mr. Carone has distinguished himself as a servant leader in the Marianist tradition at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School which teaches the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the belief that people learn, serve and pray most effectively in community, as part of a family. This characteristic makes him an ideal choice to assume the presidency at VASJ, a diocesan high school also rooted in the Marianist and Ursuline charisms. I would also like to offer my sincere thanks to Mr. Osborne for his exemplary work in guiding VASJ as interim president since June of 2020.”

Carone, a 1977 graduate of at STVM, returned to his alma mater in 2009 as its chief operating officer and was appointed president of the school in 2013. “I am extremely proud of the growth in academic excellence, faith formation and care for our community achieved at St. Vincent-St. Mary over the years. Although I will miss my fellow leaders, the faculty, staff and students at St. Vincent-St. Mary, I look forward to my new responsibilities in leading VASJ, an outstanding school with a rich history committed to the spiritual, academic and personal growth of each student.”

In his current position as president at STVM, Carone is responsible for implementing the Catholic mission and vision of the school; for strategic planning; for the supervision of the principal, business office, admissions, athletics and advancement; and the well-being of the facilities. He works closely with the board of directors to provide direction and vision to the school and is accountable for the overall success of the organization.

Carone attended The University of Akron where he received a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He had more than 20 years of experience in the business before joining STVM as chief operating officer in 2009. He and his wife, Darla, have two daughters.

Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School is a Catholic, comprehensive college-preparatory school rooted in the Ursuline and Marianist traditions and committed to the spiritual, academic and personal growth of each student.
