Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, contributions to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland, will be matched dollar for dollar -- up to $1 million -- during the 2021 Annual Appeal. The campaign is rolling out this month in parishes throughout the diocese.
Patrick Grace, executive director of the Catholic Community Foundation, said the Million Dollar Match is a significant development for this year’s campaign.
“Thank you to the anonymous couple who believe in the mission of Catholic Charities. Their gift will inspire greater generosity to help our brothers and sisters in need through their support of Catholic Charities,” Grace said.
“Love Your Neighbor,” this year’s appeal theme, takes on a greater urgency because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Many people are struggling as a result of the pandemic. Some are unemployed or underemployed, which affects their ability to provide food, housing and other necessities for themselves and their families. Others are struggling with health issues and isolation, including the elderly and those with disabilities.
“As Christians, we must be generous. That is the Lord’s call to us, and I would suggest that Catholic Charities is the best way we can be generous with the blessings the Lord has given to us,” said Bishop Edward Malesic.
The bishop recorded a special video message about the appeal. He also participated in a special live reflection on Facebook on Feb. 19, during which he spoke about the Lenten practices of increased prayer, greater fasting and more generous almsgiving, including to causes like Catholic Charities.
For more than a century, Catholic Charities Diocese of Cleveland has provided help, created hope and served people of every race and religion throughout the eight-county Diocese of Cleveland. Catholic Charities agencies strive to live their mission, reaching out to help and love their neighbors, wherever they may be.
