The wake for Father Anthony Schueller, SSS will be 4-8:30 p.m. April 30 at St. Paschal Baylon Church, 5384 Wilson Mills Road, Highland Heights. Evening prayer will be at 4 p.m. and the vigil for the deceased will be at 7 p.m., with personal reflections and memories shared about Father Schueller.
There will be a limit of 300 people in the church. Masks and physical distancing will be required.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. May 1 and will be livestreamed at church.saintpaschal.com.
Father Schueller, 71, died on April 24 while recovering from surgery.
He was born on Jan. 31, 1950 to the late John and Mary (nee Heilmann) Schueller in Belgium, Wisconsin. He entered religious life and the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament High School Seminary in 1964 in Waupaca, Wisconsin, and professed his vows on May 8, 1970.
Father Schueller was ordained to the priesthood on Oct. 22, 1977.
He served as a parochial vicar in Albuquerque, New Mexico 1977-1979; vocation and novice director 1979-1984; Catholic Center chaplain of the Diocese of Salt Lake City 1985-1992; Emmanuel editor 1990-2002 and 2013-2019; parochial vicar of St. Paschal Baylon 1991-1995; provincial superior 1995-2002 and 2014-2021; pastor of Saint Jean Baptiste Parish in New York City 2003-2013; director of the Center for Eucharistic Evangelizing 2013-2015 and pastor, Saint Joseph Parish in downtown San Antonio, Texas 2012-2021.
Those who knew him said he was a gifted writer and speaker and a humble, kind man who touched many by his Eucharistic vision and living. His passion was collaboration with the laity, especially through formation of the Associates of the Blessed Sacrament.
