Four deacons will be ordained to the priesthood on May 15

Bishop Edward Malesic will ordain four deacons to the priesthood for service to the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland during a Mass at 10 a.m. May 15 in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in downtown Cleveland.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, admission to the Mass is by invitation and ticket only. Although it is not open to the public, the liturgy will be livestreamed on the diocesan website.

Those scheduled for priestly ordination are: Alexander Vincent Clark of St. Francis de Sales Parish in Akron; Cameron David Popik of St. Adalbert Parish in Berea; Alexander Charles Spenik of Mother of Sorrows Parish in Peninsula; and James Thornton Winings of St. Dominic Parish in Shaker Heights.

The men have completed five years of study and formation at Saint Mary Seminary and Graduate School of Theology. Each received two master’s degrees from the seminary at its May 7 commencement: a master’s of divinity and a master’s in theology. After ordination, each will be assigned to serve as a parochial vicar in a diocesan parish.

Diocesan priests serve under the direction of Bishop Malesic, the local bishop. Most serve in parishes in the diocese but they also may be assigned to other positions.
