The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity — May 30, 2021

We remind ourselves of the triune nature of God every time we make the sign of the cross in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. There are three persons in God. Yet there is but one God.

How do we know of the three persons in our one God? We know this reality because God has revealed his inner self to us. God wants us to know that he is creating Father, guiding Spirit, and redeeming Son.

Of course, we cannot fathom how this all works. God is mystery, after all. But, we do know that God is a triune community of love itself.

What should our response be to the God who has revealed himself to us? Faith. We say it at the beginning of every creed, “I believe. . .” When we have faith, we know that we have found something that we have always been searching for — and must continue to search for as we enter more fully into the mystery of God day after day.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) teaches us that the desire for God is written in the human heart, because we are created by God and for God; and God never ceases to draw us to himself. Only in God will we find the truth and happiness we never stop searching for (See CCC, #27).

Today, on the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, God reveals his inner and triune self, a community of love. May this truth about God teach us something about ourselves who are made in God’s image. We should also be a community of love. But this is only possible if we respond with faith to the God who has created us, guides us, and redeems us. Have faith in the God who loves us.

This weekend we also remember those who died while serving in the U. S. Military. We pray that they now see our loving God, face to face.

God bless you and those you love.
