Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time — June 13, 2021

We live in an impatient society where fast food is the norm and instant replies to texts are demanded.

This is not the case with the Kingdom of God, which is like a seed planted in the ground. Think of all the patience that farmers must have. They plant and then they wait. Along the way they water and cultivate. But the final product takes time.

The Word of God, the seed, was planted in us when we could first hear the words “I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit” even though, for most of us as infants, we didn’t understand what was happening to us at the time. The gift of faith was being given to us in seed form. And then God, like a farmer, waited for us to sprout the wings of faith and develop the feet of good works.

Are we done yet? No. We reach full maturity as followers of Jesus when we see him face to face in heaven. Until then, God waits patiently as we grow taller and stronger in our faith. Sometimes God needs to prune us back a bit. Sometimes we need to take a larger sip from the water God’s life-giving grace. Sometimes we need to redirect our lives and reorient them to God’s Son. Sometimes we need to have others till the soil around us so that our roots can grow. Always, God is waiting for good things from us. God expects great things from us. He wants to see the fruit of our faith. How patient God is!

Have a blessed week everyone.
