Clergy assignment changes – June 2021

Father Thomas M. Sweany, pastor, St. Anselm Parish, Chesterland, received permission to retire, effective Oct. 1.

Father Andrew B. Turner, vice rector, St. Mary Seminary, Wickliffe was appointed administrator of St. Mary Parish, Chardon and St. Patrick Parish, Thompson, effective May 18. This appointment is in addition to his assignment as vice rector, Borromeo Seminary, Wickliffe and director of field education, St. Mary Seminary, Wickliffe.

Father Thomas J. Pipp, S.J., with permission of the Very Rev. Brian G. Paulson, S.J., provincial of the USA Midwest Province of the Society of Jesus, concludes his appointment as administrator of Gesu Parish, University Heights, effective May 31.

Father Gary D. Yanus, judicial vicar, Diocese of Cleveland, received permission to move from the rectory of St. Luke Parish, Lakewood to the rectory of St. Mel Parish, Cleveland, effective July 1.

Msgr. Richard C. Antall, pastor, Holy Name Parish, Cleveland, was elected as presbyteral convener – Cleveland Southeast District, and will serve a three-year term on Presbyteral Council, effective June 1.

Father Kevin P. Elbert, pastor, St. Lake Parish, Lakewood, was elected as presbyteral convener – Suburban West District, and will serve a three-year term on Presbyteral Council, effective June 1.

Father Robert J. Franco, pastor, St. Peter Parish, North Ridgeville, was elected as presbyteral convener – Lorain District, and will serve a three-year term on Presbyteral Council, effective June 1.

Father Andrew J. Hoover, parochial vicar, St. Ambrose Parish, Brunswick, was elected as presbyteral convener – Suburban Southwest District, and will serve a three-year term on Presbyteral Council, effective June 1.

Father Lawrence Jurcak, pastor, St. Mary Parish, Hudson, was been elected as presbyteral convener – Summit North District, and will serve a three-year term on Presbyteral Council, effective June 1.

Father Thomas M. Dragga, pastor, Resurrection Parish, Solon was re-elected as presbyteral convener – Suburban Southeast District, and will serve a three-year term on Presbyteral Council, effective June 1.

Father William A. Thaden, pastor, Sacred Heart Chapel Parish, Lorain, was reappointed as an appointed, at-large member of Presbyteral Council, and will serve a three year-term on Presbyteral Council, effective June 1.

Father Dismas Byarugaba, AJ, with the permission of the Very Rev. Augustine Idra, AJ, regional provincial of the Apostles of Jesus Institute, concludes his appointment as chaplain of Akron City Hospital, and was appointed administrator of Visitation of Mary Parish, Akron and St. John the Baptist Parish, Akron, effective Sept. 11.
