Clergy assignment changes -- August 2021

Father Damian J. Ference concluded his advanced studies in Rome and was appointed vicar for evangelization for the Diocese of Cleveland, effective July 1. He continues to be a member of the faculty at Borromeo Seminary and his residence remains unchanged.

Father William A. Smith concluded his appointment as director of pastoral care and health affairs for the Diocese of Cleveland, effective July 1. Father Smith continues his appointment as pastor, Our Lady of Grace Parish, Hinckley.

Father Charles J. Stollenwerk, pastor, St. Richard Parish, North Olmsted, received permission to retire, effective Jan. 15, 2022.

Father Ryan J. Cubera concluded his appointment as administrator, St. Mary of the Falls Parish, Olmsted Falls, and was appointed pastor, St. Mary of the Falls Parish, Olmsted Falls, effective Aug. 14.

Father Edward F. Suszynski, pastor, Our Lady Help of Christians Parish, Litchfield, was elected as presbyteral convener, Wayne-Ashland-Medina District, and will serve a two-year term on Presbyteral Council, effective Aug. 1.

Father Vincent J. Hawk, pastor, Holy Trinity Parish, Avon, was appointed at-large member of Presbyteral Council for one year, effective Aug. 1.

Father John C. Retar, pastor, St. Vitus Parish, Cleveland, was elected as presbyteral convener, Cleveland Central East District, and will serve a three-year term, June 1.

Father Philip Bernier, OFM Cap, administrator, St. Peter Parish, Cleveland, was appointed as a member of the Presbyteral Council to represent the religious communities of the Diocese of Cleveland for one year, effective Aug. 1.

Father Patrick Kumakech, AJ, with permission from the Very Rev. Augustine Idra, AJ, regional provincial of the Apostles of Jesus, was appointed Catholic chaplain of Summa Akron City Hospital, Akron, effective Sept. 11. He was granted permission to reside at Visitation of Mary Parish, Akron.
