Bishop Edward C. Malesic appointed Lisa M. Durst as secretary of Parish Life and Development, replacing Sister Rita Mary Harwood, SND, who retired from the position in August.
Durst will work under the direction of the vicar general/moderator of the curia for the diocese, and will provide leadership for the offices of the secretariat. She also will work collaboratively with the bishop’s senior staff, parishes and various other groups within the diocese. Among her duties, Durst will be responsible for collaborating with the vicar for evangelization for the purpose of planning and executing diocesan wide initiatives, recommending programming and resources for diocesan wide initiatives and preparing reports in areas of responsibility.
In addition, she will lead secretariat planning and goal setting, budgeting and evaluation of programming and performance results. Her responsibilities also include working with the international community as well as overseeing ministry to the incarcerated.

It is a great privilege to serve the people, parishes and leadership of the Diocese of Cleveland,” said Durst. “I’m looking forward to beginning my new role, bringing my servant leadership style and organizational expertise to be of service to God and my brothers and sisters in Christ.”
Durst joins the administration of the Diocese of Cleveland after serving most recently as direcctor for organizational development and planning for Lakeland Community College in Kirtland. She has worked in other roles at the college since 2010, also serving as director for institutional research and planning and as manager /director for institutional planning.
Her pastoral/ministerial experience includes a decade of service to the Diocese of Charleston, South Carolina as director of planning in the Office of Synod Implementation where she facilitated pastoral planning for parishes and diocesan offices and monitored implementation of the diocesan synod. In collaboration with the diocesan pastoral council, she also developed the diocesan pastoral plan, among her other accomplishments.

A military veteran, Durst served in the United States Air Force. She earned a Master of Public Administration degree from Troy University in Troy, Alabama, and has a Bachelor of Science degree in management studies from the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland. Recently, Durst completed a graduate certificate for formation in spiritual theology from the Avila Institute for Spiritual Formation.
She is an active member of St. Bede the Venerable Parish in Mentor.
