A message at Hanukkah to the Jewish community in Northeast Ohio from Bishop Malesic

News of the Diocese

November 28, 2021

Light, the first gift of the Eternal One in Creation! As the great “festival of lights” begins, I wish to extend Happy Hanukkah greetings to our sisters and brothers in the Northeast Ohio Jewish community. Each night, as you light another lamp on the menorah recalling the re-dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem by Judas Maccabeus so long ago, may the bonds of faith, family and friends always brighten your lives.

The Catholic community in the Diocese of Cleveland shares your joy as together we pray for peace on Earth and goodwill to all. May the unity that flows from this great celebration also shine a bright light against the darkness of antisemitism here and around the world.

As sisters and brothers in Northeast Ohio, we pray that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob bless and enlighten our cooperation so that we can be better attentive to his plans for us all.

Shalom.
