Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist announces Christmas Mass, confession schedule
There will be some changes to the usual Mass and confession schedule at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist due to the Christmas holiday.

Daily Mass will be celebrated at 7:15 a.m. and noon Monday through Friday -- except for Christmas Eve -- in the cathedral. Daily Mass will be livestreamed as usual at noon Dec. 20-23 and Dec. 27-31 on the diocesan website. The Mass also can be viewed on demand after it concludes.

On Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, daily Mass will be celebrated at 7:15 a.m. in the cathedral. Bishop Edward Malesic will celebrate the 4:30 p.m. Christmas vigil Mass, which will be livestreamed. There also will be a Mass at 10 p.m. in the cathedral, with a Christmas choral concert beginning at 9:15 p.m.

On Christmas Day, Masses will be at 8 and 10:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Father Sean Ralph, cathedral rector, will celebrate the 10:30 Mass, which will be livestreamed. There is no 5:30 p.m. Mass on Christmas Day.

Bishop Malesic also can be seen celebrating Mass at 11 a.m. on Christmas Day on WUAB Channel 43. This liturgy also is available on demand on the diocesan website.

The usual Sunday Mass schedule will be followed on Dec. 26: 8 and 10:30 a.m., 12:15 and 5:30 p.m. The 10:30 Mass will be livestreamed.

On New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, the vigil Mass for Mary, Mother of God will be celebrated at 5 p.m.

New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, 2022, the feast of Mary, Mother of God, is not a holy day of obligation. However, Mass will be celebrated – and livestreamed -- at 9 a.m. The 4:30 p.m. Mass that day is the vigil Mass for Sunday, Jan. 2.

The Mass schedule for Jan. 2, Epiphany of the Lord, will follow the usual Sunday schedule: 8 and 10:30 a.m., 12:15 and 5:30 p.m. As usual, the 10:30 Mass will be livestreamed.

The confession schedule is 3-4 p.m. Dec. 18; 6:30-7 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 20-23 and Dec. 27-31, with extra confessors available midday. Confessions are available 7:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

The cathedral office will be closed Dec. 22 to Jan. 2, 2022.
