The miracle of Cana is the first one of many great works of Jesus during his lifetime. It was done at the behest of his mother. When the wine had run out at the wedding feast, and a great embarrassment was about to befall the newlyweds, Mary comes to her son and simply says to him, “They have no wine.” Jesus responds very reluctantly, “Woman, my hour has not yet come.”
But we already know the influence that Mary had (and has) over her son. She turned to the waiters and said to them, “Do whatever he tells you.” And Jesus told those servants to fill the empty wine jars with water and then start pouring into the wine glasses from it. Yes, the water had turned into wine!
And it was the best wine.
Let us never forget to turn to Mary with our needs. She has the ear of Jesus. She is a great intercessor for us.
And Jesus, who satisfies our every true need, will give the best to us and supply what is necessary for our salvation.
This week we honor Rev. Dr. Martine Luther King, Jr. We ask for an end to racism.
This week we mark the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. We ask for the legal protection of unborn persons.
This week we bring our individual needs before the Lord. We ask for the Lord to hear the prayers of his mother for all of us. And then, we must not forget to do whatever Jesus tells us.
Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.
Have a blessed week everyone.
