Catholic Schools Week celebration set for Jan. 30 to Feb. 5

Catholic schools throughout the Diocese of Cleveland and across the country once again will join with the National Catholic Educational Association to celebrate Catholic Schools Week from Jan. 30 through Feb. 5.

The celebration continues to look different this year because of the continuing coronavirus pandemic, but the pillars of faith, excellence and service are still the foundation of each school’s work, both in the Cleveland Diocese and nationally.

The Catholic education system nationwide impacts nearly 2 million students annually. The Diocese of Cleveland educates approximately 37,000 students enrolled in Catholic schools across eight counties.

The majority of schools within the diocese are minimizing activities or adjusting their CSW celebrations to a later date in the spring because of the ongoing pandemic. However, a few are planning special events, including SS. Robert and William School in Euclid, which will have a Four Chaplains Day ceremony on Feb. 3; St. Francis of Assisi School in Gates Mills which will recognize its alumni during a Mass on Jan. 30, followed by a curbside takeout dinner; and St. Ambrose School, which will have its annual community leaders program on Jan. 31.

The traditional school open houses in Catholic schools across the diocese will take place in person and there also will be virtual touring options for those interested in learning more about their local Catholic school. Open houses will provide social distancing while students, families and teachers will demonstrate how working together in Christ within a faith-based education setting helps serve a greater community outside school walls. “Spanning all eight counties of the diocese, we are blessed to have many diverse education options,” said Frank O’Linn,

superintendent of Catholic schools. “Our enrollment is the sixth-largest in the nation and is an indication of the value of Catholic education to the faithful today and for the future.”

The diocesan 2021-2022 State of the Schools Report published in January, highlights accomplishments from all 106 Catholic schools in the diocese.
