In remembrance – Father John J. GorskiThe wake for Father John J. Gorski will begin with vespers at 3 p.m. Feb. 18 in Holy Trinity Church, 33601 Detroit Road, Avon. Auxiliary Bishop emeritus Roger Gries will be the presider, with Father Vincent Hawk, Holy Trinity pastor, as homilist. The wake will continue until 7 p.m.

Bishop Martin Amos, retired bishop of Davenport, Iowa, will be the main celebrant at Father Gorski’s funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Feb. 19 in Holy Trinity Church. Father Gerald Keller will be the homilist.

Father Gorski, 89, pastor emeritus of Holy Trinity Parish, died Feb. 14.

He was born Nov. 9, 1932 to the late Michael and Sophie (Dmitrow) Gorski. Father Gorski was educated at St. Michael School, St. Michael High School and West Tech High School, all in Cleveland; Westlake High School in Westlake; St. Gregory Seminary in Cincinnati; Borromeo Seminary in Wickliffe; and Saint Mary Seminary in Cleveland.

Bishop Floyd Begin ordained him to the priesthood for service to the Diocese of Cleveland on May 23, 1964, in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.

Father Gorski’s first assignment was as parochial vicar of St. John Cantius Parish in Cleveland. On Sept. 30, 1969, he was transferred to SS. Peter and Paul Parish in Garfield Heights to serve as parochial vicar. He was appointed parochial vicar of St. Clement Parish in Lakewood on June 27, 1974, and was transferred to St. Peter Parish in North Ridgeville on June 27, 1979 to serve as parochial vicar.

Father Gorski was appointed administrator of St. Peter Parish on Oct. 27, 1980.

He was appointed pastor of Holy Trinity Parish in Avon on Sept. 9, 1984, where he served until his retirement. Father Gorski was named pastor emeritus of Holy Trinity on April 15, 1998.

He was appointed chaplain of the North Ridgeville Knights of Columbus Council 7970 on April 21, 2010.

Those who knew him said Father Gorski was always kind and willing to help and was dedicated to the priesthood, working tirelessly to convert hearts to Christ. He continued ministering, as he was able, in his retirement.

Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Avon.
