Clergy assignment changes -- April 2022

Father Paul J. Rosing, pastor, Holy Family Parish, Stow, received permission to retire, effective Jan. 15, 2023.

Father Thomas A. Haren, pastor, St. Monica Parish, Garfield Heights, received permission to retire, effective Jan. 15, 2023.

Father Raymond A. Sutter, pastor, St. Matthias Parish, Parma, received permission to retire, effective Aug. 14.

Father Russell P. Lowe resigned as pastor, Our Lady of Angels Parish, Cleveland, and was granted an authorized leave of absence for sick leave, effective immediately.

Father John C. Chlebo was appointed administrator, Our Lady of Angels Parish, Cleveland, effective April 1. This appointment is in addition to his assignments as pastor, St. Christopher Parish, Rocky River, and as delegate for senior priests, Diocese of Cleveland. His residence remains unchanged.

Father Anthony J. Simone concludes his appointment as parochial vicar, St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Parma. He was appointed parochial vicar, St. Jerome Parish, Cleveland, and presbyteral moderator, St. Aloysius-St. Agatha Parish, Cleveland, effective June 14. He also received permission to live in the rectory of St. Jerome Parish, Cleveland, effective June 14.

Father Craig M. Hovanec was appointed administrator, Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, Lorain, effective April 18. This appointment is in addition to his assignment as pastor, St. Peter Parish, Lorain. His residence remains unchanged.

Father Lawrence Jurcak, pastor, St. Mary Parish, Hudson, was elected to represent Group II (1977-1981) on the Clergy Personnel Board. The three-year term of office begins June 1 and concludes My 31, 2025.

Father Thomas M. Dragga, pastor, Resurrection of Our Lord Parish, Solon, was reelected to represent Group III (1982-1987) on the Clergy Personnel Board. The three-year term of office begins June 1 and concludes on May 31, 2025.

Father Timothy W. Gareau, pastor, St. Raphael Parish, Bay Village, was reelected to represent Group IV (1988-2001) on the Clergy Personnel Board. The three-year term of office begins June 1 and concludes on May 31, 2025.

Father Andrew J. Hoover, parochial vicar, St. Ambrose Parish, Brunswick, was elected to represent Group VI (2013-2021) on the Clergy Personnel Board. The three-year term of office begins June 1 and concludes on May 31, 2025.

Father Michael Ausperk concluded his appointment as parochial vicar, St. Francis Xavier Parish, Medina, and he was placed on administrative leave, effective March 20.

Father Patrick R. Schultz, parochial vicar, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Wadsworth, was appointed to serve as chaplain of the Cleveland Chapter of Legatus, effective May 1. This appointment is in addition to his assignment as parochial vicar, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Wadsworth.

Father Douglas T. Brown, pastor, Mary Queen of Peace Parish, Cleveland, was appointed the Bishop’s liaison to the extraordinary form, effective immediately. This appointment is in addition to his current assignment as pastor, Mary Queen of Peace Parish, Cleveland.

Father Gerald J. Bednar, senior-priest retired, was appointed chaplain to the Catholic Lawyers Guild, effective March 22.

Deacon George P. Malec was appointed director of the Permanent Diaconate Formation Program, effective May 15. This appointment is in addition to his appointment as parish life coordinator, St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Fairport Harbor.

Deacon David J. Lundeen, St. Mark Parish, Cleveland, was reelected to represent the diaconate community (2000 and earlier) on the Clergy Personnel Board. The three-year term of office begins June 1 and concludes on May 31, 2025.

The diaconal assignment of Deacon Carl H. Winterich, St. Mary Parish, Hudson, concluded and he was granted retirement status, effective July 1.

The diaconal assignment of Deacon Daniel P. Clavin, St. Gabriel Parish, Concord Township, concluded and he was granted retirement status, effective April 17.

Sister Mary Jean Raymond, OSU, with permission from Sister Ritamary Welsh, OSU, superior of the Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland, was appointed parish life coordinator, St. Aloysius-St. Agatha Parish, Cleveland, effective April 1.
