Bishop Edward C. Malesic will be the principal celebrant at the 11 a.m. June 10 funeral Mass of Christian burial for his father, Joseph A. Malesic. The Mass will be in Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 280 N. Race St., Middletown, Pennsylvania.
A viewing with visitation will be 6-8 p.m. June 9 at Wiedeman’s Funeral Home, 357 South Harrisburg St., Oberlin, Steelton, Pennsylvania. Vigil prayers for the deceased will begin at 8 p.m. There will be a viewing prior to Mass, 10-11 a.m. June 10, in Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church.
Mr. Malesic, 104, died June 3.
Survivors include two sons, Robert (Constance) and Edward, bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Mr. Malesic was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth (Schatt); a son, Joseph Jr.; a daughter, Margaret; and four brothers: Tony, Bill, Rudy and Frank.
He was retired from Defense Depot New Cumberland, where he was director of management information systems. Mr. Malesic, a World War II veteran, was a master sergeant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Mr. Malesic previously was a member of the former St. John the Evangelist Parish in Enhaut, Pennsylvania. Currently, he is a parishioner at Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Middletown, Pennsylvania.
He also had memberships with the American Legion Post 594 Middletown, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, AARP and St. Aloysius Society No. 42, KSKJ, Steelton, Pennsylvania.
Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery following the funeral Mass on June 10.
