Happy birthday Church!
On Pentecost, the Church came to life. The Spirit entered the Mystical Body of Christ and gave it the mission to announce the Good News that Jesus Christ had risen from the dead. In him, we have the forgiveness of our sins and the promise of eternal life.
It is the Holy Spirit, coming to us first in baptism that allows us to say, “Jesus is Lord.” We have received God’s very life, the Holy Spirit, who reminds us of all that Jesus told us and has done for us.
In the Sacrament of Confirmation, we are strengthened in the Spirit and received the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, piety, knowledge and fear of the Lord.
Why are we gifted by the Holy Spirit? To give us everything we need to announce that Jesus, our Lord, wants to be Lord of all people. He wants all to come to him and know his forgiveness, peace, and promise of life in abundance.
Each in our own way, according to our own vocations and unique giftedness, yet who “drink of the one Spirit,” continue to build up the Church so that we can fulfill our common mission of witnessing to Jesus, alive from the dead.
So, happy birthday, Church! We are gifted with the Holy Spirit to be made one and united in our purpose: to live and proclaim the Gospel that we have heard. Jesus Christ is Lord.
Have a blessed week everyone.
