The wake for Father Robert J. Glepko, senior priest-retired, will begin with vespers at 3 p.m. July 24 in Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 418 W. 15th St., Lorain, with Bishop Edward Malesic as the presider. Father Martin Polito will be the homilist. The wake continues until 7 p.m.
Bishop Martin Amos, retired bishop of Davenport, Iowa, will celebrate the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. July 25 in Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. Homilist will be Father Joseph O’Donnell.
Father Glepko, 72, died on July 16.
He was born on Jan. 27, 1950 to the late Stanley and Mary (Vozobule) Glepko. Father Glepko was educated at St. Henry School, Cleveland; Borromeo Seminary, Wickliffe; and Saint Mary Seminary, Cleveland.
Bishop James Hickey ordained him to the priesthood for service to the Diocese of Cleveland on Nov. 30, 1976 in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist
Father Glepko’s first assignment after ordination was as parochial vicar of St. Ignatius of Antioch Parish, Cleveland. He was transferred June 30, 1983, to serve as parochial vicar at St. Michael Parish, Independence. During this assignment, he also served as chaplain of the Knights of Columbus, Lafayette Council 3970, effective Dec. 13, 1983. He was appointed parochial vicar of St. Mary Parish, Berea on July 15, 1987. Father Glepko was appointed chaplain of Akron General Hospital with residence at St. Bernard Parish, Akron, on Aug. 31, 1987. He was appointed parochial vicar of St. Peter Parish, Lorain, on June 14, 1989, and was transferred to serve at St. Ann Parish, Cleveland Heights, on Nov. 4, 1993.
He was appointed pastor of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Lorain on Dec. 12, 1997. During that assignment, Father Glepko was appointed pastor of St. Stansislaus Parish, Lorain, and St. Ladislas Parish, Lorain, effective June 9, 2009.
Those who knew him said Father Glepko was very generous, loved music and was a talented stained-glass artist and photographer. They said he would be missed greatly.
Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
