Cleveland’s Little Italy neighborhood will be bustling Aug. 12-15 as the 123rd annual celebration of the feast of the Assumption takes place on Mayfield Road near Holy Rosary Church, 12021 Mayfield Road.
Festival hours are 6 p.m. to midnight Aug 12, noon to midnight Aug. 13, noon to 11 p.m. Aug. 14 and noon to 10 p.m. Aug. 15.
The event includes Masses, processions, a Marian shrine, religious articles, children’s games, inflatables, mini golf, an air-conditioned casino in the lower church hall, a run, live music, a concert by the Holy Rosary Choir, food, vendors, raffle drawing and more. There will be a vigil Mass for Sunday at 4 p.m. Aug. 13 in the church. Sunday Masses (Aug. 14) will be at 8:30 and 11 a.m.
One of the highlights of the celebration is the solemn Mass at 10 a.m. Aug. 15, which will be celebrated by Bishop Edward Malesic with newly ordained Auxiliary Bishop Michael Woost as homilist. The traditional procession through the Little Italy neighborhood will follow Mass.
Mass also will be celebrated at 8 and 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Aug. 15. The last Mass will be followed by a candlelight procession and prayer service on Mayfield Road to bring the celebration to an end.
Holy Rosary’s annual cavatelli dinner will be served 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 15. Cost is $12 for adults, $7 for children 12 and younger. Included are cavatelli with homemade meatball and sauce, salad, bread, cake and coffee. Additional beverages can be purchased. Seating is available in the air-conditioned church hall.
The parish will have stands in front of the church and in the church parking lot, piazza by Coltman Road and the lower church hall featuring Italian foods and desserts, a Marian shrine, religious articles, children’s games, inflatables and mini golf.
Proceeds from the parish stands support Catholic education and the parish.
