Sisters of Notre Dame choose U.S. sister as new leader of international congregation

Sister Mary Ann Culpert, SND was selected as the superior general of the international congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame. She will lead the congregation for the next six years.

“I am so grateful to walk in the footsteps of the many sisters who have laid the strong foundation for our congregation,” Sister Culpert said.

Before that, she ministered at Notre Dame Academy in Toledo, Ohio for 14 years as dean of academics, principal, and president. Sister Culpert earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Bowling Green State University in 1981 and a master’s in education/school counseling from the University of Dayton in 1993.

In addition, five assistant generals for the congregation were elected, including Sister Kathleen Burns, SND from Simi Valley, California. She has been a member of the SND General Council since 2016. Before that, she served as the novice director for SND USA. Sister Burns has broad experience in adult faith formation and parish ministry.

The Sisters of Notre Dame are an international community spanning five continents, 14 time zone, and 17 countries. The U.S. province of the Sisters of Notre Dame consists of four regional ministry centers in Chardon, Covington, Kentucky, Thousand Oaks, California and Toledo.
