January 2023 Northeast Ohio Catholic magazine will arrive soon

News of the Diocese

December 22, 2022

The new issue of Northeast Ohio Catholic magazine will be arriving in homes across the eight-county Catholic Diocese of Cleveland shortly after the New Year begins.

On the cover of the January/February 2023 issue is a story about how the power of prayer helped a young husband and father battle a severe case of COVID-19. After months of struggling to regain his health, Matt Gould defied the odds and returned home to his family in time for Easter and his daughter’ first Communion.

The new issue also features the Sewing Club at St. Brendan School in North Olmsted, in which about 20 boys and girls in grades 3-8 learn the basics of sewing. In addition to creating things for themselves, the students do service projects under the guidance of Cathy Onacila and group of volunteers.

In his column, Bishop Edward Malesic suggests resolving to spend more time with the Blessed Sacrament in the New Year. He also talks about the ongoing Eucharistic Revival.

With Catholic Schools Week approaching, the diocesan Education Office shared its annual State of the Schools Report. There also is a story about the Radio Club at Communion of Saints School in Cleveland Heights, a feature on how the Christ Child Society of Akron revitalized the long-closed library at St. Augustine School in Barberton and the new Culture Project missionary team is introduced.

There also is a recap of the seventh #weGiveCatholic event and a look at the Catholic Charities 2023 Appeal, which begins the weekend of Feb. 18-19, 2023, a recap of the seminary blessing and ribbon-cutting event that concluded the Heart of a Shepherd campaign and a story about the ongoing transition at the St. Vincent Charity Health Campus.

In his “In the Know with Father Joe” column, Father Joe Krupp answers a question about whether non-Catholics can go to heaven.

And Sister Jane Nesmith, SBS gets the “Last Word.” The new director of the Office of Black Catholic Ministries, Sister Nesmith expresses her gratitude for the recent gatherings that honored Black Catholic History Month.
