Diocesan Social Action Office hosts virtual Lenten series

News of the Diocese

March 8, 2023

“One Planet, One Family: Catholic Responses to Climate Change and Global Poverty” is the theme for a virtual Lenten series being presented by the Diocesan Social Action Office. The remaining sessions will be 7-8 p.m. March 15 and 29.

According to Jeff Campbell, director of the Catholic Commission of Summit County, the series is based on Catholic Relief Services’ new integrated campaign theme, “One Planet, One Family.” He said it combines awareness and focus on their global poverty relief efforts along with the increasing climate change that is affecting global poverty and adding to the challenges of CRS’ work.

CRS, a nonprofit organization, carries out the commitment of the Catholic bishops of the United States to assist the poor and vulnerable overseas. For more than 75 years, CRS has been working in more than 100 countries to assist the poorest people.

The March 15 session will focus on the “U.S. Catholic Response to Climate Change.” Representatives from Catholic Climate Covenant will speak.

On March 29, the topic will be “Local Responses to Climate Change,” with Father Dismas Byarugaba, AJ and Paul Connor from Visitation of Mary Parish in Akron, plus personal/parish closing reflections.

All are welcome to attend the program. To obtain the Zoom link, contact Campbell at jcampbell@ccdocle.org or Shawn Witmer at smwitmer@ccdocle.org. Each session lasts an hour.
