Yesterday we read from John’s account of Judas’ betrayal of Jesus. Today we read from Matthew’s account.
The story of Judas on two days in a row. What is that all about? Why does the Church want us to reflect on what Judas did twice in the same week?
Perhaps the wisdom of the Church is telling us that now is the time to reflect on our own betrayals of the Lord in what we have done and in what we have failed to do.
Only when we admit that we are sinners do we realize our need for a savior.
Only when we admit that we have fallen do we ask God to pick us up again.
Only when we realize that we are lost do we cry out for God to come and save us.
May this Holy Week help us to realize how blessed we are that God sent his only Son, not to condemn us, but that we might have life in him.
