The wake for Father James F. Kramer will begin with vespers at 3 p.m. May 7 in Guardian Angles Church, 1676 Cleveland-Massillon Road, Copley/ Presider will be Father Don Oleksiak, vicar general/moderator of the curia for the Diocese of Cleveland, with Father Bob Cole as homilist. The wake will continue until 7 p.m.

Auxiliary Bishop emeritus Roger Gries will be then principal celebrant at the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. May 8 in Guardian Angels Church with Father Walt Jenne as homilist,

Father Kramer, 81, died on April 29.

He was born on July 25, 1941 to the late Frank and Iona (Acker) Kramer. He was educated at St. Augustine School in Barberton, St. Mary High School in Akron, John Carroll University in University Heights, Borromeo Seminary in Wickliffe and Saint Mary Seminary in Cleveland.

Bishop Clarence Issenmann ordained him to the priesthood for service to the Diocese of Cleveland on May 25, 1968 in St. John Bosco Church, Parma Heights.

Father Kramer’s first assignment was as parochial vicar at St. Bernadette Parish in Westlake. On June 27, 1974, he was appointed director of admissions and served on the faculty of Borromeo Seminary in Wickliffe. He was appointed parochial vicar of St. Joseph Parish in Strongsville on June 18, 1981.

Father Kramer was named pastor of St. Bernadette Parish, Westlake on Sept. 1, 1983. On Feb. 5, 2002, he was named pastor of Guardian Angels Parish in Copley, where he served until his retirement on July 1, 2019.

Those who knew him said Father Kramer would be remembered as a gentle man and a kind priest who was attentive to the needs of the poor and the youth. He served those entrusted to his care in a quiet and reserved manner always trying to help others grow closer to the Lord.

Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.
