The wake for Deacon Victor R. Colon will begin with vespers at 3 p.m. Dec. 6 in Sagrada Familia Church, 7719 Detroit Ave., Cleveland. Bishop Edward Malesic will preside and Father Rob Reidy, former pastor of Sagrada Familia Parish, will be the homilist. Visitation will continue until 9 p.m.
Auxiliary Bishop Michael Woost will celebrate Deacon Colon’s funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Dec. 7 in Sagrada Familia Church. The homilist will be Father Francisco Garnica, CSJ, Sagrada Familia pastor.
Deacon Colon, 80, died Dec. 3. Survivors include his wife, Olga (Torres), children and grandchildren.
He was ordained to the permanent diaconate for service to the Diocese of Cleveland on May 20, 1995 by Bishop Anthony Pilla in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.
After ordination, Deacon Colon was assigned to San Juan Bautista Parish in Cleveland.
In 1997, San Juan Bautista merged with Capilla de Cristo Rey to form Sagrada Familia Parish, where Deacon Colon continued to serve.
Those who knew him said he would be remembered for his kindness and the manner in which he embraced his diaconal ministry.
Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Lorain.
