Today we wait for the light of Christ to shine on us and our world. Tonight, when it is dark, a reminder of the shadow of death that hangs over the world, a fire will be lighted outside of our churches. It is the Vigil of Easter and that fire, which is Christ, will be brought into our churches everywhere around the world. One by one the light of the fire of our faith will be shared with others until the inside of the church is made visible by the light of Christ. We will sing, “Christ, our Light. Thanks be to God.”
At the same Easter Vigil, tonight, we will baptize adults and bring others into Full Communion with us through the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. Those who will be baptized and those brought into full communion have come to see the treasure we have in Jesus, his Church and our sacraments and they want a share in it too.
The light has come to us in the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead and the darkness of this world will never be able to overcome it. This is what gives us joy. And may we be as aware as our newly baptized and fully initiated Catholics of the great treasure we have in Jesus, our light and our hope.
Let us pray for the newly baptized and fully initiated members of our Catholic Church.
