In remembrance – Deacon Charles W. Zawadzki, deacon, retiredThe wake for Deacon Charles W. Zawadzki will begin with vespers at 3 p.m. April 4 in St. Thomas More Church, 41760 N. Amber Drive, Brooklyn. Bishop Edward Malesic will preside and Father Jack Manning will be the homilist. The wake will continue until 7 p.m. in the church.

Auxiliary Bishop emeritus Roger Gries, OSB will celebrate Deacon Zawadzki’s funeral Mass at 11 a.m. April 5 in St. Thomas More Church. Father Bill Bouhall, spiritual director for Borromeo Seminary and former St. Thomas More pastor, will be the homilist.

Deacon Zawadzki, 87, died March 30. Survivors include his wife Marian (Wish), children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was ordained to the permanent diaconate for service to the Diocese of Cleveland on May 20, 1995 by Bishop Anthony Pilla in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.

After ordination, Deacon Zawadzki was assigned to serve Corpus Christi Parish in Cleveland. He was assigned as interim parish life coordinator on June 1, 2004.

On Nov. 1, 2009, Deacon Zawadzki was assigned to serve St. Thomas More Parish in Brooklyn, where he remained until his retirement on April 15, 2016.

Those who knew him said Deacon Zawadzki was a kind and gentle soul who dedicated his life to his family and ministry, putting others first. He considered his vocation of marriage and the diaconate great blessings in his life.

Private interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brook Park.
