In remembrance – Deacon Homer L. Sherman, deacon, retired

Bishop Martin Amos, retired bishop of Davenport, Iowa presided at the funeral Mass for Deacon Homer L. Sherman on May 6 in St. Clarence Church in North Olmsted. Father Neil Kookoothe, pastor of St. Clarence Parish, was the homilist.

Deacon Sherman, 90, died on May 1. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise (Flynn), and survived by his children and grandchildren.

He ordained Homer L. Sherman to the permanent diaconate for the service of the Diocese of Cleveland by Bishop Anthony M. Pilla on June 5, 1982, in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.

After Ordination, Deacon Sherman was assigned to St. Clarence Parish, North Olmsted where he served until his retirement on May 1, 2010.

Those who knew him said Deacon Sherman was dedicated to his family, diaconal ministry and the people of St. Clarence Parish.

Interment was at St. Joseph Cemetery, Avon.
