It was with great joy that Fr. James Mayer, O.de M., Pastor of St. Rocco parish and school in Cleveland, blessed the newly placed building cornerstones on June 5, as major, campus-wide construction projects near completion. School students and staff were on hand to celebrate this important milestone. Thanks largely to a generous donation from Tom Jeckering, and with the support of St. Rocco parishioners, St. Rocco School staff and students are counting down the days until the start of the new school year when they return to the renovated campus.
“The new and improved Saint Rocco School will allow the tradition of almost 100 years of Catholic education to continue for the children of the Clark-Fulton neighborhood. Our updated and contemporary facilities will enable our current and future students to grow academically and spiritually, while learning what it means to be “Crusader Strong!” notes St. Rocco Principal Mrs. Renee Cerny.
With nearly every physical space impacted, students will find remodeled, state-of-the-art classrooms, including new furniture ideally suited for modern, contemporary learners. St. Rocco’s athletes and physical education classes will compete and play in a new gym, while all students will enjoy the benefits of eating in a new, modern cafeteria.
Learning today looks very different than it did when St. Rocco School first opened its doors in 1927. Catholic schools pride themselves on providing students with the very best education, with school facilities playing a large role in meeting the needs of today’s students and families. Originally founded to serve Italian immigrants who settled on Cleveland’s West Side, St. Rocco School continues to serve students of the Clark-Fulton area and surrounding neighborhoods.
An official ribbon cutting is scheduled for September 7, at 1 p.m. Auxiliary Bishop Michael Woost will preside at this ceremony, with school tours to follow.
