“Sisters, all of us together give thanks and praise to God for you,” said Auxiliary Bishop Michael Woost, principal celebrant at the Sisters of Notre Dame - Chardon Jubilee Celebration and Mass on June 30.
“Today, we praise God that your prayer has been answered and your living confirmed. You have been, and are, and will be grace and gift to us and to many,” Bishop added.
Family, friends, and numerous local clergy attended this special moment of gratitude and prayer in honor of the 30 jubilarians celebrating 40, 50, 60, 65, and 70 years of religious life.
The Sisters of Notre Dame were founded in 1850 in Coesfeld, Germany by Hilligonde Wolbring and Elisabeth Kühling, educators whose work focused on caring for poor, underserved children. The Sisters of Notre Dame began their ministry in northern Ohio in 1874 with the arrival of eight sisters.
Continuing in the tradition true to their founding, the sisters currently minister in 17 countries, across five continents, as Catholic educators and caregivers dedicated to helping people experience God’s goodness and provident love.
Bishop Woost concluded his homily by reminding these honored woman religious, “Yet, the journey is not over. This jubilee is just one more Emmaus station along the way. Your days of praying and living radically and dangerously are not complete. Trusting in God’s faithfulness, continue to be for us and for many: Grace and gift! The seal upon God’s heart! The chosen friends, the Beloved, of Jesus! The revelation of God’s love, sealed with the Holy Spirit!”
