In remembrance – Father Michael J. Arkins, SSSFuneral services Father Michael J. Arkins, SSS will begin at 4:45 p.m. Oct. 4 at St. Paschal Baylon Church, 5384 Wilson Mills Road, Highland Heights, with evening prayer, followed by visitation until the vigil for the deceased at 7 p.m.

Father Arkins’ funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 5 at St. Paschal Baylon. The liturgy will be livestreamed.

Father Arkins, 79, died Sept 27. He was the seventh pastor of St. Paschal Baylon.

He was the oldest son of Mary (nee Conway) and James Arkins of Chicago, Illinois.

On Aug . 22, 1967, Father Arkins professed religious vows in the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament. He was ordained to the priesthood on Dec. 15, 1973.

He filled many roles within the religious community, including parochial vicar at Notre Dame de Chicago; St. Mary, Menasha, Wisconsin; St. Camillus, Los Angeles, California; and St. Charles Borromeo, Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Father Arkins also served as pastor of St. Martin de Porres, Taylorsville, Utah; St. Paschal Baylon (1999-2009); St. Vincent de Paul, Holiday, Florida; and St. Eulalia, Maywood, Illinois, before retiring in 2019 for health reasons. After retirement, he again served at St. Paschal Baylon as senior parochial vicar before moving to Regina Health Center in Richfield this year.

Survivors include a brother, Peter Julian; a sister Kathy; brother-in-law Tim Corbett and a niece, Stacey Lunn Snow (Corbett) and her family.

Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon.
